3 Ways to Burglar-Proof Your Windows

Have you ever locked your keys inside your house and had to find a way to break into your own home? It’s an unfortunate situation, but it can also open your eyes to how vulnerable your house may be to a real break-in. After all, if you’re able to break in, others can too. At Clinton Glass, we not only want your house to have energy-efficient, updated windows, we also want you to be safe. So today we’re discussing three easy ways you can burglar-proof your windows and sleep easy at night.

1. Replace or Repair

A broken window provides the perfect opportunity for a burglar to gain entrance into your home. Whether it doesn’t latch properly, the panes are broken, or it just doesn’t fit into the frame correctly, your home is at risk. If your windows are damaged, consider replacing them with an updated version that will give you a more secure closure and thereby guard against intruders.

2. Install Locks

There are several different types of window locks you can install that will enhance each window’s security. Pin locks are recommended for ground floor windows as they can prevent intruders from lifting your windows up and climbing inside. There are also keyed locks (which require a key to open), hinged wedge locks, and sash locks. Each type of lock provides an additional level of security and can help your home be safer.

2. Plant Thorny Shrubbery

Finally, we like this old-fashioned tactic for discouraging burglars – simply plant thorny shrubbery right outside the window! If a burglar recognizes the shrubbery, they will be less likely to get close; and if they don’t, they’ll be in for an unfortunate surprise. If placed strategically, plants can also give you an added level of privacy, so never underestimate the power of a good plant!

Don’t let your windows be an afterthought when considering home security. When it’s time to upgrade your windows, Clinton Glass can ensure your home is secured with the best windows on the market. Contact us today at (860) 664-3711 for a free quote for your New London or New Haven home.
